Wetting layers in electrolyte solutions

چکیده

2014 When a predominantly nonpolar mixture is in contact with a chemically ionizable substrate, thick wetting layers of a predominantly polar phase can form on the substrate. This paper considers the effects of added salt on such layers. In the limit of low salt concentrations, the equilibrium thickness reduces to a result previously derived by the author. In the limit of high salt concentrations, the thickness reduces to a Debye screening length times a known function of two dimensionless parameters. J. Phys. Evaluation of Electrical Breakdown of Anodic Films on Titanium in Phosphate-base Solutions

Titanium is a highly reactive metal so that a thin layer of oxide forms on its surface whenever exposed to the air or other environments containing oxygen. This layer increases the corrosion resistance of titanium. The oxide film is electrochemically formed through anodizing. In this study, anodizing of titanium was performed in phosphate-base solutions such as H3Po4, NaH2Po4, and Na2Hpo4 at 9....

Giant Osmotic Pressure in the Forced Wetting of Hydrophobic Nanopores.

The forced intrusion of water in hydrophobic nanoporous pulverulent material is of interest for quick storage of energy. With nanometric pores the energy storage capacity is controlled by interfacial phenomena. With subnanometric pores, we demonstrate that a breakdown occurs with the emergence of molecular exclusion as a leading contribution. This bulk exclusion effect leads to an osmotic contr...

Dynamic contact angles on PTFE surface by aqueous surfactant solution in the absence and presence of electrolytes.

This study presents the experimental results on dynamic contact angles of pure surfactants and surfactants with electrolyte solutions on PTFE (Teflon) surface. Dynamic advancing (theta(A)) and receding (theta(R)) contact angles measurements by the Wilhelmy plate technique were carried out for aqueous solution of three different surfactants Triton X-100 (TX-100), sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate ...

Lithium-ion battery electrolyte mobility at nano-confined graphene interfaces

Interfaces are essential in electrochemical processes, providing a critical nanoscopic design feature for composite electrodes used in Li-ion batteries. Understanding the structure, wetting and mobility at nano-confined interfaces is important for improving the efficiency and lifetime of electrochemical devices. Here we use a Surface Forces Apparatus to quantify the initial wetting of nanometre...
